Our History:

On February 19, 1985, a group of Sandy Hill women met to discuss the possibility of starting a preschool at Sandy Hill. At this meeting, a committee was organized to write a proposal to be presented to the congregation.

On May 29, the church business meeting unanimously approved the proposal providing free use of the facility, and other considerations.

During the summer months of 1985 a benefit craft/bake/yard sale was held at Intercourse Fire Hall, and flyers were distributed door to door in the church community. By August 16, the staff was lined up and sixteen children had been registered.

Preschool started in September with ten three year olds attending on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and twelve four year olds attending on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

In December of 1985, the committee reorganized to change from a planning committee to an ongoing committee of five persons from Sandy Hill Church and two from the community (usually parents).

In 1986, the enrollment was 36 and playground equipment was installed in November. In 1987, the size of the 3's class was increased to 15. A Pre-Kindergarten class was begun in the fall of 1988 and enrollment was 48. In 1989, a class for 2 1/2 year olds was added. An afternoon 3's class was added in 1990. Preschool classes were now meeting morning and afternoon five days a week.

Presently the school has a capacity of 180 students. Twenty five staff are employed, all on a part-time basis. Advertising is basically by word of mouth. The preschool enjoys a favorable reputation in the community. Visitors to the school frequently comment that all the children appear busy and happy and the teachers are so pleasant.
