Our History
How Sandy Hill Community Church Began

In September 1947, several men from the Maple Grove Mennonite Church, near Atglen, Pa., while discussing possible locations to begin a new community outreach, were asked to investigate the area north of Sadsburyville, in the Phillipsville vicinity.  An information gathering visit was conducted in the area during the fall of 1947.  The group visited homes in the community and were encouraged by the community's desire for a Sunday School and Christian witness in the area.

Maple Grove contacted the West Caln Township officers and the school board about the possibility of using the little, one room Sandy Hill Schoolhouse for services.  They gave their permission and did not ask for any rental charge.

Based on the positive feedback from the community, supervisors and school board, Maple Grove decided to move ahead with plans to operate a Sunday School and hold worship services in the little, one room schoolhouse that was located along South Sandy Hill Road.  The first Sunday School and worship service was subsequently held on December 7, 1947.

The little old schoolhouse was our place of worship until May of 1953 when we moved into our new church on the corner of South Sandy Hill Road and Old Wilmington Road.  We have been at the present location for 51 years and have undergone two expansion projects.  The first expansion was in 1967 which raised seating capacity to 180.  The second expansion was completed in 1999 which raised our seating capacity to 270.  This is the building you see today as you go by our property.

Who We Are Today

Sandy Hill is a growing church whose doors are open to anyone who desires to worship God.  We welcome you to "come and experience the presence of God as we worship."  We want to meet you and get to know you.

There are a number of different ways for you to connect with us, such as our Small Group Ministry, our LIFT 3:16 Youth Ministry, our weekly worship service, which begins at 10:15 a.m., our Sunday morning Adult Bible Studies which begin at 9:15 a.m., our GROW 3:18 Children's Ministry which runs concurrently with our worship service, our monthly Fellowship meals following worship service, (held on the first Sunday of the month).

Sandy Hill also operates the Sandy Hill Preschool. SHPC has been serving the families of our community for over 28 years.  If you have preschool children, you may wish to explore what the preschool has to offer.

Sandy Hill has recently begun a Food Pantry for the needy of our community.  The Pantry of Plenty distributes food to the community on the second Saturday of each month.
